Day by Day

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Fort Portal

Upon arrival at Entebbe Airport, meet our company representative who will transfer you heading Fort Portal side about 6 hours on road as you pass the beautiful Ugandan country side, people’s settlements, huge plantations and farms and a lot more. Arrive in Mubende town where you will branch off to visit the famous Nakayima tree. This is a famous tree that is full of rituals and beliefs. It was named after Nakayima the wife to Ndahura who was a Muchwezi ruler and the tree has been there for so many years, locals believe that it has Nakayima spirits so they go and worship it. The guide will tell you more about it and later proceed on the way to Fort Portal, have your lunch in Fort Portal town then after embark on the journey to visit Amabeere g’ Nyinamwiru, these are breast-like features in the caves that are believed to be breasts of Nyinamwiru daughter to Bakuku the King of Bachwezi. The whitish breast-like substances continue to flow which people believe that they are breasts of Nyinamwiru who was denied to breast feed her baby at a tender age. After here you may continue and hike to Fort Portal Crater Lake field or transfer up to your lodge for relaxation and dinner.

Day 2: Make a visit to the Royal Palace of Toro and Karambi Royal Tombs

Have your breakfast and then drive to the Royal Palace of Toro; the Kingdom is awesomely situated on a Hill which gives good views of the Fort Portal town and great views to the mountains of the moon. The palace is embellished with beautiful architecture that is nice to view, you have the chance to explore the Toro Royal Regalia plus the clarification of the King’s Coronation processes. After head out to Karambi Royal Tombs visit discover the tombs of the former Tooro Kings which includes the founder father of the Kingdom King Kaboyo you have a chance to listen to the beautiful Kingdom History, ways and norms. Return to the lodge for lunch, later in the afternoon you may decide to relax or go for the Batooro ritual naming ceremony, this ceremony is a common practice among the Batooro as they gather and give their children pet names like Amooti, Atyeni, Akiiki, Abwoori etc. When you attend the ceremony you have a chance to get a pet name too.

Day 3: Transfer to Ntungamo for Nshenyi Cultural Village.

Have your breakfast at leisure, it’s a traveling day today, pack your things and then get on a car and drive from Fort Portal heading in Ntungamo district where Nshenyi Cultural Village is situated. On the way you will meet awesome beauty of Ugandan Land, large farms of the local people, huge plantations, smiling faces of people on their daily duties, you will arrive In Mbarara and have lunch there then continue up to Ntungamo, then arrive in Nshenyi within 20 minutes. You will arrive and get some relaxation at the village as you wait for dinner to be served.

Day 4: Discover all the Banyankole Cultures and Norms in Nshenyi Village.

Wake up early enough to enjoy the cultural village settings and how things are done, it’s an exploring day for you take part in traditional cattle treatments, cow milking, learn about the Ankole Long horned Cattle, naming of the cows, go to the grazing field along with the herdsmen; here you have a chance to learn to blow musical instruments like flutes with traditional songs for the cattle while grazing, do the cattle watering then retire back to the Village for the traditional lunch to be served for you. Some people especially women may have stayed and take part in preparation of the traditional meal, later attend the craft making processes or do the community walks, see how they make traditional attires, dancing styles etc. Later retreat and go back for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Mgahinga National Park.

Have your breakfast drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park through stunning landscapes and Highlands of Kigezi which most writers call the Switzerland of Africa because of its scenic views you get from the routes of Kabale and Kisoro then arrive in the Virunga Volcanoes. Have lunch at the lodge and then relax till dinner time.

Day 6: Visit the Batwa Pygmies trails

Following your breakfast, head out for the visit to the Batwa in their own Heritage trails, walk through up to the park headquarters in Ntebeko where you get briefed and start the Batwa trek in the forest with the Batwa guides to guide you through as you explore their awesome heritage within their ancient homes. They will teach you how they hunt for food, their herbal medications, participate in the extraction of honey, teach you how they construct their tree houses, the Batwa women and kids will sing for you their traditional songs and dance for you, the Batwa culture will make your day and you will feel sorry because it is one culture that is so endangered in the country. It will take almost half day or more then embark on your journey and retire at your lodge till dinner.

Day 7: Transfer back to Kampala en-route Igongo Cultural Center

Have your breakfast and then transfer to Kampala with a stopover at the renowned Igongo Cultural Center where you have enough time to explore more of Ankole’s culture and history, get to hear the stories about the Long Horned Ankole Cows, the History about the Ankole Kingdom, the way they dress, visit the Igongo Cultural Meseum,and much more. Then continue with your journey to Kampala via Masaka, lunch en-route if time allows you can make another stopover at the Uganda Equator for nice photos and craft works then do the water experiments. Later continue with the drive to Kampala arriving in the evening check in to your lodge and rest till dinner.

Day 8: Kampala City and cultural tour.

Wake up to your breakfast and prepare to explore some of Kampala’s cultural areas, visit the Uganda Museum which has a series of history about Uganda, learn much about the old Uganda in leadership, dressing, fighting ways and the tribes. Continue and visit the nearby craft villages where you will have a chance to explore cultural items you have a chance to pick a souvenir from them. Then visit Kasubi tombs which belongs to the long surviving Buganda Kingdom, continue and tour the Lubiri which means the Buganda Palace, then visit the man-made lake called Kabaka’s Lake meaning a King’s Lake. Return to the Hotel for lunch and then transfer to Entebbe international Airport for your departure.
